Welcome From the Director Welcome to LCPC’s Parent Education Program! As a mom of three, former high school instructor and administrator, and M.F.T. I am thrilled to be part of such a special program that helps families thrive!!! As our program enters its 30th year, we strive to provide parenting instruction, resources, and friendships that your family will benefit from forever. We are excited about the 2008-09 school year as we will be offering15 classes for parents of babies through teens! Among our offerings will be a new class called “Non Separating Toddlers.” This class will still have discussion time, but the parents will not separate into another classroom since we have the luxury of space in the new Fellowship Hall. We are also thrilled to offer all the classes from last year including two traditional Toddler Classes that do have discussion time in separate classrooms. Additionally, due to popular demand, we will continue the two new classes we piloted this year: Mixed Ages and Pre-Kindergarten. Mixed Ages allows you to bring children between 2-5 years old--which even allows for siblings! The Pre-K Class is a parent only class fashioned after the other successful parent only classes we offer for parents of elementary, tween and teens. While parenting is a journey for which there are no guarantees—it is journey that can be enhanced by information and support. Thank you for letting us journey with you as we all learn and grow. Please call me anytime with you feedback and suggestions! God’s richest blessings, Anne Sorensen Bierling, MA, MFT Mission Statement We strive to encourage loving and effective parenting by teaching concepts of human development, strategies for building stronger families, and an appreciation for the uniqueness of both parent and child. In addition, we seek to create a warm, caring community of faith within each class which will provide meaningful support and encouragement to parents in their parenting journeys. What we Offer Teacher assistants, who are also qualified in child development, work closely with the children facilitating confidence and comfort during class and discussion times. Parent Ed. is a program that nurtures parents and children in a Christian atmosphere. One of the greatest benefits is the encouragement and support parents receive on their parenting journey. About Our Classes The parent only classes were first developed for parents who graduated from the parent-child parenting classes and realized they were facing issues for which they needed help and support. Cary Horne is teaching our Parents of Pre-K children. Jan Roberts teaches four, weekly parent only classes providing parents the opportunity to learn about parenting children and teens throughout their school age years.
