2008 West Coast Missions and Ministry Healthcare Conference

  • Fuller Seminary, Pasadena

This is a top quality group of speakers coming in as well as many opportunities for networking and building relationships with like-minded Christian health professionals.

Due to facility limitations they are only able to take the first 300 registrants so PLEASE register ASAP! Also, if you know of someone who might be interested, please pass the word on to them!

For more info check out the Website www.healthcaremissions.org

Close the Academic Achievement Gap in Altadena

  • Ongoing Wednesdays
  • 7:00 pm
  • Home of Bruce & Lisa Wasson
  • To RSVP contact Bruce at bwasson99@yahoo.com or call (626) 824-3695.

Year after year, Altadena’s predominantly low-income students achieve academic proficiencies 40-50% percentile points below their non-low-income peers statewide. Based on repeatable practices at key public schools with higher penetrations of low-income students than Altadena, closing this gap is well within reach to any community that can break free of the structures that block the hard work of closing the gap! Come join this justice pursuit that some at the national level have called “the key civil rights challenge of our generation.”

Casa de la Esperanza Orphanage, Tijuana, Mexico

  • 4th of July Weekend, Annually

The Casa de la Esperanza orphanage trip is an inter-generational work-weekend that takes place over the 4th of July weekend each year.

International Students, Inc.

Meet with a mature and friendly international student every couple of weeks for an hour at a time and place convenient to you. Three month commitment. Please sign up online at www.isibevnet.net/sites/apearce.

Dear La Cañada friends,

Throughout history, God has used two to strategies to "bless the nations"

  1. Sending His people to the world
  2. Bringing the world to His people.

Most of the teaching on world missions has concentrated on the going (or sending), but God has always brought the world to where His people are located.

The opportunity to reach international students is recognized by missions experts as one of the most strategic ministries in the world today. It involves no travel, no learning of a foreign language, no cost, and no change in lifestyle. Simply welcoming and befriending a student into your home can make a large difference in the life of that individual. Research has shown that 70% of international students will never set foot in a home in America, and many are lonely and feel isolated.

We have a unique opportunity to welcome international students studying at Caltech by involving individuals or families as " Friendship Partners". The ministry of International Students, Inc. (ISI) takes care of finding the students and matching them. Friendship Partners welcome the students by arranging to see the student in person once or twice per month for the semester at a time and place that is convenient for everyone.

Please prayerfully consider serving as a Friendship Partner and welcoming an international student by sharing Christ's love. If you are interested Andy Pearce, Area Director for ISI, and I will be leading an orientation/equipping session from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm on Thursday May 17. There is a $10 charge for the materials. You can decide if you would like to be involved at the end of the session. Please contact me for more information.

"The alien living with you must be treated as one of your native-born. Love him as yourself, for you were aliens in Egypt. I am the Lord your God." (Leviticus 19:34)
