Pakistan.
The college is a compound of 40 acres with two access points
for vehicles, both manned by security guards. Inside the walls
of the compound, the campus is park-like with broad athletic
fields, an abundance of trees, attractive landscaping, and
widely spaced buildings, 20 of which are large houses intended
for faculty.
In the center of campus are five academic buildings, which
are currently being sandblasted to reveal attractive red brick
exteriors.
A sixth building is under construction and is scheduled to
house Business and Social Sciences in early 2007. Other campus
buildings
include the chapel (Sunday services in Urdu, English, and Korean),
the library, and the administration building and auditorium.
On-campus dormitories provide housing for 600 of the college’s
3,600 students.
Beneath this attractive exterior, however, are many challenges.
Most of the classrooms are substandard, and office space for faculty
is poor or non-existent. Some buildings needed for additional housing
are currently in disrepair and are occupied by squatters, who remain
on campus despite efforts to evict them. Improving the facilities
is essential in order to create a suitable learning environment
and recruit quality faculty.
The Murphys wish to say “Thank you” to those of you
who have already given generously to Forman Christian College.
Your contributions are being invested well.
