Here are some photos and stories from some previous
LCPC Mission Trips:

All ages joined together at All Church Camp to serve others. We constructed
cubbies for a school for homeless children, donated backpacks for the
homeless children, and painted drama backdrops with L. A. inner city
youths for their back yard Bible Club. We explored through drama how
to relate to homeless adults and also how to gather water from a river
in Ethiopia. For pictures, click here.

"Thank you so much for this scholarship!
This is a huge blessing for me! I'm so excited to see what God has
in store for me this year
and throughout my whole life! My freshmen year went great and I'm praying
that this year will be even better! God has been so good to me! Once
again, thank you for helping me get through college without having to
stress as much! God bless!
P.S. This verse has helped me get through everything! I
wanted to share it! "Teach me to do your will, for you
are my God. May your gracious spirit lead me forward on a firm
footing" Psalm 143:10.

Twenty one people from LCPC plus 5-6 people from Harambee worked together
to
improve Harambee's prayer garden--installing a gate, preparing a gravel
path,
planting flowers, and making & hanging an artistic cross. One participant
said, "
My level of fear was lower than I thought it would be. I wouldn't have
gone to
this neighborhood just 6 months ago, and now it seems comfortable to
be with
these new friends. Now I'm thinkiing about going back to help on their
career
day."

On all Faith Missions Go Local Journeys, over 50
LCPC people actually
served the poor, from NW Pasadena to skid row in LA.

June, 2006
On June 10 a team from LCPC toured the Union Rescue Mission on San Pedro
Street in Los Angeles and gathered information about volunteer opportunities
there. The facility provides beds and meals for homeless men and women
and offers a year-long residential transitional program, which offers
courses in life skills, computers, and job training.

Girl Scout Troop 782, all eighth graders at La Canada High School, worked
with Claudia Zentmyer at LCPC to deliver baby items to mothers in need
at Olive View Hospital in Sylmar. The girls bought and decorated the
buckets and then filled them with baby items. They were able to meet
the mothers of newborns and personally deliver the buckets, which they
found to be a very rewarding experience.

March, 2006
In an overnight, transformational journey to LA,
LCPC parents and their children (ages 7 to 16) didn’t just serve
the poor; they sat down together with the homeless, listened to each
other’s stories, and got to know each other by name. They played
with children who are homeless because HIV/Aids has taken away the family’s
income. A great time was had by all, and love was shared in Jesus’ name.

Here are some thoughts from one family that went:
At the end of our weekend of Serving
Homeless Families, I really hadn’t come to any conclusion
as to the value of the trip for Michael, age 8.
On Tuesday we were near the fountain at
the Yerba Buena Art Center in San Francisco. We noticed that
a man
was standing in the fountain area. His shoes and pant legs were
getting wet. A security guard started yelling at the man, who was
now sitting in the fountain collecting pennies. He ignored the
security guard. He had about fifteen pennies in his hand and was
intent on getting more. The security guard called for assistance
on his walkie-talkie. The man’s clothes were wet, and although
the sun was out, it would be cold tonight. Michael and I watched
the scene. Other people were going about their day and ignoring
it. I asked Michael what he thought about it. He said, “I
think I should go over there and explain to the security guard
that the man is just hungry.”
Our weekend of Serving Homeless Families caused Michael to see
this exchange as a misunderstanding between two equal people, and
the security guard was the one who needed to learn something. Praise
God for that.

Seventeen LCPC members and their children met early this past Saturday
morning to caravan down to a World Impact church plant project in South
Park, Los Angeles. We brought items for a yard sale and helped set it
up. We also helped staff their health fair, which included screening
for diabetes, hypertension, vision problems, and nutritional counseling.
Our church families played with their church families, and a good time
was had by all. If you are interested in serving with us in the future,
contact Mary Ashford at ashford6@sbcglobal.net or

“I feel so blessed to have participated in the Health Fair.
I loved meeting fellow members of our church in a more intimate setting.
I loved using my nursing skills. I loved talking with the locals and
learning about their world. Thank you for the opportunity.” ----LCPC
member
Each year LCPC brings together a number of individuals and whole families
from the church, to serve and share their God-given talents in Mississippi,
constructing family housing by pounding nails and sweating!!
Over 100 people from our congregation have traveled to Mississippi to
build houses over the last 15 years.
Families are being transformed, both here and in Mississippi. Through
this work God builds people as well as houses.

The following message was a hand-written card from a doctor in Afghanistan.
(The names of the doctor and those she serves have been withheld as
a safety precaution.)
Dear Pastor Milley and Christmas Market Organizers,
I was surprised and grateful when Mrs. Woodberry gave me the gift you
sent to improve the quality of life of poor women in Afghanistan. I have
been a doctor here since 2000 and have been able to use some of the funds
already.
So far, I have bought medications for mentally ill men, who were wife-beaters
before taking the medications. Now they are calm, and the lives of their
wives are much better.
One such man was in a locked psych ward in Kabul but has now returned
to his family. Please pray that he will continue his medications and
that his wife will be able to accept him after he almost killed her.
Only Jesus can perform a miracle in their lives.
Another patient you have helped is only 27 and has 5 children. She has
kidney failure and is pregnant. This pregnancy could kill her, and I
have consulted with two different specialists about her problem. We are
hoping that she will be able to carry the child 5 more weeks so that
he/she will also live. Your prayers are appreciated.
Thank you again for your gift.
