Christmas Concert: Glad Tidings

December 17, 2023 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Christmas is a time for music and singing. La Canada Presbyterian Church will explore that subject in a free concert on Sunday, December 17 at 2 p.m.  The free concert will be a multimedia event, featuring movie excerpts, video clips and pictures of favorite Christmas images.

This year’s special feature is a seven-movement work “Glad Tidings” by Randol Alan Bass for chorus and full orchestra. The work tells the Christmas story using familiar carols and songs. Special guest is acclaimed stage, film and television actor Kevin Brief who will narrate the story.

Other special segments include John Rutter’s “Gloria,” the familiar carols “The First Nowell,” “O Tannenbaum” and a medley of nine Christmas songs in waltz style titled “Christmas la Valse.”   Violinist Leslie Woodbury will be featured on an exuberantly Celtic setting of “Of the Father’s Love Begotten.” A segment for children includes the song “Christmas Is for Children” and the Boston Pops arrangement of “Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer” plus a Christian view of this favorite song. The audience will also be invited to sing along with familiar carols.

Prior to the concert, LCPC’s Director Music & Worship Arts, Jack Lantz, will present a lecture on the program and the composers in the church sanctuary at 1:30 p.m.

There is no cost for admission (freewill offering received). La Canada Presbyterian Church is located at 626 Foothill Blvd. For further information, call the church office at (818) 790-6708 or visit lacanadapc.org.

For those who cannot attend in-person, the concert and pre-concert lecture will be livestreamed via LCPC’s websiteYouTube and Facebook.
