Ovations Spring Concert

March 24 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

The elegantly melodic music of Mozart composed for Holy Week and Easter are featured in the next concert by LCPC’s highly regarded Chancel Choir and LCPC Orchestra. The concert will be presented at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 24, in the LCPC sanctuary.  Featured works are the Solemn Vespers for the Confessor, K.339, dedicated to St. Rupert, the patron saint of the city of Salzburg, and premiered during Holy Week, and the Mass in C, K.317 “Coronation,” composed for Easter, April 4, 1779. This magnificent work with alternating choir and soloists and its brass fanfares unfolds with the brilliance and the sumptuousness of a grand opera finale. The mass is, perhaps, Mozart’s most famous due to its adoption for European coronations in the 19th century. Conducting the concert is Jack Lantz. Soloists include Rebecca Sjöwall, Kimberly Poli, Matthew Thomas, and Mark Beasom.

Prior to the concert at 1:30 p.m. in the church sanctuary and online, LCPC music director Jack Lantz will discuss the background of Mozart’s love-hate relationship with his hometown, Salzburg, and his boss, Archbishop Colloredo, of Salzburg Cathedral.

The concert is free. La Canada Presbyterian Church is located at 626 Foothill Blvd, La Cañada

Shake off our winter storms and prepare to celebrate Easter and Spring flowers with the gracefully divine music of Mozart.

For those who cannot attend in-person, the concert and pre-concert lecture will be livestreamed. Use the following link to watch:  live.lacanadapc.org.

The concert will also be livestreamed via the church’s pages on YouTube and Facebook.
