The After Party: Toward Better Christian Politics

July 17 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Dear LCPC Friends …

If you were in church on Sunday, June 23, you heard me pray, “Lord, we do pray for better ways to express divergent views of difficult circumstances so that our debates would work to build up our country and citizens with good solutions rather than tear down our opponents with disparaging attacks.”

As I come to the conclusion of my calling to LCPC, I recognize it is in a time of a contentious election season.  So, my fervent prayer continues to be that LCPC can be a church that “loves one another” well in the midst of our debates and diverse viewpoints.

As we know, in this polarized climate, the election season can take a toll on our relationships with our friends, family, fellow churchgoers, and even in our Life Groups. While Christians don’t agree on the “what” of politics (e.g., positions on issues and candidates) our Christian values can help us with the “how” of politics—the manner in which we engage in political discussions and relate to those who see things differently.

That is why I’m hopeful to offer my “last class” at LCPC, along with our good friend, Dr. Rich Mouw (former President of Fuller Seminary and LCPC member). We will be using a curriculum called The After Party: Toward Better Christian Politics. Rather than a traditional lecture, this is a six-week, video-based interactive curriculum that aims to “reframe our political identity away from the ‘what’ of political positions and toward the ‘how’ of being centered on Jesus.” This series, co- hosted by Russell D. Moore (Editor-in-Chief of Christianity Today), and David French (Christian Attorney and NY Times Columnist), has been used at a variety of other churches around the country with a significant positive response at doing exactly what we hope and pray can happen at LCPC.

Join Pastor Chuck Osburn & Dr. Rich Mouw for this six-week class using a curriculum called: “The After Party: Toward Better Christian Politics.” This video-based interactive curriculum aims to “reframe our political identity away from the what of political positions and toward the how of being centered on Jesus.” Childcare is available. Note: Dinner is not provided.

Summer can be a challenging time for a class because of vacation schedules, etc. If you are unable to attend a session, you can catch up on what you missed. Sign up for the free course here: https://redeemingbabel.org/the-after-party/. If you will miss a class, we encourage you to watch that session’s videos and reflect on the questions given in the workbook.

I do sincerely hope that as I depart LCPC, this curriculum could be a gift to our congregation. I know it would be a gift to me if you prayerfully considered joining me, Rich Mouw, as well as Pastors Ross and Cindy, for this important conversation. Jesus was right when he said … “Blessed are the Peacemakers.”  Let us together be a part of that blessing, not only for ourselves, but for LCPC and for all our neighbors!

Pray & Love!  Sincerely in Christ,

P.S. AND … BTW … you can’t use a curriculum called The After Party without having an “after party” 😊, and so … AFTER each After Party meeting, we will be heading over to Los Gringos to continue our discussions over chips and guacamole for whoever wants to join us.
