A Time for Lament
June 2, 2020 @ 7:00 pm - 8:15 pm
The Racial Reconciliation & Justice Ministry of LCPC invites you to a special on-line event “A Time for Lament” on June 2, at 7:00-8:15pm
We will watch together an episode of the podcast Conversing with Mark Labberton, Dr. Labberton is the current President of Fuller Seminary and spoke on “Racial Reconcilation” as part of LCPC’s “Faith in the Public Square Forum.” In this 43-minute special episode, responding to the killing of George Floyd and the protests focused on violence against black and brown bodies, Dwight Radcliff, Assistant Provost for Fuller Seminary’s William E. Pannell Center for African American Church Studies, speaks to Dr. Labberton about the systems of oppression and generational trauma that plague black communities in the United States, and challenges the church to own a theology that responds rightly to suffering rather than dismissing it. As a predominantly-white community, it is incumbent on us to listen well to the experiences of our African American brothers and sisters and this podcast gives us an opportunity to listen and seek to understand.
As we truly hear and begin to understand the pain, hurt and anger of the African-American community, we are moved to lament. Following the podcast, we will have a time of community prayer and lament.
