Something Wonderful – Music of Rodgers & Hammerstein
May 23 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
To this very day, the classic musicals of Rodgers & Hammerstein — and the timeless songs they wrote for them — remain the epitome of the great American art form, musical theatre. They are indeed “Something Wonderful.”
The LCPC Chancel Choir and Orchestra will present favorite Rodgers & Hammerstein songs in the original orchestrations, with full 60-piece orchestra, in a broadcast concert on May 23 at 2 p.m. with a pre-concert lecture at 1:40 p.m. The program will consist of favorite songs from the musicals Oklahoma, Carousel, South Pacific, The King and I, Flower Drum Song, State Fair, and, of course, The Sound of Music. Accompanying the music will be a multi-media program including video excerpts from the musicals.
Every song is a hit, from “Do-Re-Mi” to “Bali Hai,” “People Will say We’re in Love,” “Climb Ev’ry Mountain,” “There Is Nothing Like a Dame,” “It Might as Well Be Spring,” “Oklahoma,” “I Whistle a Happy Tune,” “You’ll Never Walk Alone,” plus many others – each very familiar and much loved. In all, the choir and soloists will present over 25 favorite songs of Rodgers & Hammerstein in an afternoon of great music for people of all ages.
Prior to the concert, at 1:40 p.m., Jack Lantz, LCPC’s Director of Music & Worship Arts, will present via the same broadcast a pre-concert lecture on Rodgers and Hammerstein and their groundbreaking contributions to musical theatre.
