Virtual Christmas Eve Worship Services
December 24, 2020 @ 3:30 pm - 11:00 pm
In the midst of these challenging times, La Cañada Presbyterian Church will celebrate the good news of Christmas through four online Christmas Eve services: 3:30, 5:00, 7:30, and 10:00 pm. The services at 3:30pm and 5:00pm seek to appeal to all ages with Christmas carols including some led by the VirtuKidz online children’s choir, as well as a Christian reflection from Director of Children’s Ministry, Heather Henry, that features video contributions from children telling the Christmas story. At 7:30pm, a Contemporary Worship led by LCPC’s Praise Band will feature a sermon by LCPC’s new (and returning) Interim Senior Pastor, Gareth Icenogle. At 10:00pm the service style will be Traditional which will feature LCPC’s Sanctuary Choir soloists with organ as well as pre-recorded orchestra and choir music and a sermon by Pastor Icenogle. At all the services, those watching are encouraged to have candles available to participate in the candle lighting and singing of Silent Night at the conclusion of the service. That evening, the Chancel Choir soloists will also present a concert “A Ceremony of Carols” by Benjamin Britten at 9:30 p.m. accompanied by harp. All are welcome to join in celebrating the miracle of Jesus Christ’s birth!
Pastor Icenogle’s sermon will continue in his series on “Unwrapping the Great Gifts of God” as he preaches on God giving the “Word Made Flesh.” According to Pastor Icenogle, “We celebrate and honor the Incarnation, God in a human body, coming in the birth of Jesus, born of God and born of woman. This historical miracle is unique to Christianity from all other religions. There is no comparable event or belief among people of other faiths. The Word Made Flesh living among humanity, being one of us, understanding us, advocating for us, living for us, dying for us and raised from the dead for us, changes human history forever and can change each of us personally. Merry Christmas! Merry Christ Feast Day! Merry Christ Birth Day! He is God for us, with us, among us, born to lay down his life for us so that we might lay down our lives for one another! The Gift that keeps on giving!”
